Symptoms

What we repair

Stone damage looks permanent and usually isn't. These are the jobs we do most often.

Chips along the edge

A dropped pan takes a piece out of the bullnose.

Cracks across the slab

Common around sink cutouts and cooktops, where the stone is narrowest.

Scratches and dull patches

Marble marks easily and etches from anything acidic.

Colour gone flat

Sun, cleaning products and years of use pull the depth out of stone.

Failed sealing

Water darkening the stone around the sink means the sealer is gone.

Holes and cutting

New faucet, air gap, soap dispenser or an extra hole.

Replacement is four jobs. Repair is one.Removing the slab, refitting the sink, templating new stone and redoing the backsplash.

How it works

Four steps, no surprises on the invoice

Send photos

Photos help us understand the job. The final price is given after the on-site inspection.

We book the inspection

A technician comes out, checks the surface and gives you the exact price before any work starts.

Repaired in place

Almost everything is done on site. The slab stays where it is, the kitchen goes back into use the same day in most cases.

Sealed and protected

We finish with sealing where the stone needs it, so the repair holds instead of staining again in a season.

Pricing

Estimate first, repair only on your approval

Every job is priced after an on-site inspection, because the same symptom can mean a routine part or a sealed-system job. The technician checks the appliance and gives you the exact number before anything is opened up.

The $115 service call covers the visit and diagnosis, and it is credited toward the repair when you approve it. Contact us to schedule an inspection and receive an on-site estimate.

Marble and granite only

Why repair beats replacement almost every time

Replacing a countertop is not one job, it is four. The old slab comes out, the sink and cooktop are disconnected and refitted, new stone is templated, cut and installed, and the backsplash usually has to be redone where the old slab met the wall. That is why a chip that could be repaired for a few hundred dollars turns into a very large quote the moment someone says the word replacement.

Almost all of the damage we see is cosmetic and localised. A chip out of a bullnose edge, a crack running from the corner of a sink cutout, etch marks on marble where lemon juice sat overnight, a dull band along the front edge where the stone gets wiped a thousand times a year. All of it is repairable in place, and the finished repair is meant to disappear into the surrounding stone rather than announce itself as a patch.

We work with marble and granite specifically, not the full range of engineered surfaces, because the repair chemistry and the polishing sequence differ by material and doing two well beats doing six badly. Colour restoration is the part people underestimate: polishing brings back gloss, but restoring the depth of colour in stone that has faded is what makes the difference between looking cleaned and looking new.

Custom work is a real part of this. Drilling a new faucet or air gap hole into an installed slab, trimming a piece to fit after a cabinet change, adjusting a seam that was never dressed properly. These are quoted individually, because the price depends on the stone, the thickness and what is underneath it. Send photos and we price it before anyone drives out.

The stone side of Y-TECH also operates as Y-TECH Floor & Surface Repair. We cover San Diego, La Jolla, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, Solana Beach, Carlsbad and nearby areas.

Questions

Before you call

Can a cracked granite countertop really be repaired?

In most cases yes. Cracks are stabilised, filled and polished flush so the surface is continuous again, and the repair is colour-matched to the stone. Replacement is only the sensible answer when the slab has failed structurally, which is rare.

How do you price restoration work?

Every job is priced after an on-site inspection, because the price depends on the stone, the type of damage and its size. Photos sent beforehand help us understand what we are coming to and bring the right materials.

Will the repair be visible?

The aim is that it is not. Fills are colour-matched to the stone and polished to the surrounding finish. On heavily patterned granite repairs disappear almost completely; on plain pale marble a close look in raking light may still find the spot.

Do you work on quartz, quartzite or engineered stone?

We work with marble and granite. The repair chemistry and polishing sequence differ by material, and we would rather do two surfaces properly than six approximately.
